Sally Hamilton has been painting and participating art shows in Santa Barbara, California since 1990. She enjoys experimenting with different media and setting new challenges for solo exhibits. For about ten years she focused on plein air landscape painting and still enjoys painting outdoors with friends in the Santa Barbara art community. She has continually taken life drawing classes and is working on realistic and abstract ways to paint the figure in oil. She has also explored abstraction using oil, acrylics, and pastel, and paints still lifes in oil and acrylic.

Sally Hamilton has been painting and participating in local art shows since 1990. She enjoys experimenting with different media and setting new challenges for personal exhibits. She has continually taken life drawing classes at SB Adult Education and landscape workshops with nationally known artists such as Marcia Burtt, Albert Handell, Randall Stewart, and Peggi Kroll Roberts.
Sally has produced solo exhibits at the Faulkner Gallery, Gallery 113, Corridan Gallery, the UCSB Faculty Club, Finestra, Fielding University, The University Club, Montecito Country Club, and Live Culture and she has appeared in many invitational and group exhibits.
Sally enjoys setting a theme for solo exhibits. Examples of her shows are “Farscapes” (oil landscapes looking down as if from a plane) “Mono” (still lifes in oil of Japanese objects), “Another Look” (mixed media abstractions inspired by her own landscapes) “Body Language” (figures in oil, pastel and acrylics) “Liquid Visions” (oil still lifes featuring water) “Tuscan Inspiration” (pastels done in Tuscany, Italy) “Dreams of Flying” (whimsical pastels based on stories people told her about their dreams of flying) and “Skyscapes” (abstracted mixed media pieces influenced by air travel.)
After teaching elementary school in Goleta for 27 years, Sally retired in 1999 and has enjoyed focusing on her art work, attending classes and helping to organize art exhibits through the Santa Barbara Art Association and SCAPE (Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment.) She was twice President of SBAA and was the Exhibits Chair for SCAPE for 4 years. She is a founding member of Montecito Artists Group, Mesa Studio Artists and 21 Artists – groups of artists that show locally every year
Sally is a board member of Domestic Violence Solutions, Friends of the Santa Barbara Library, the Santa Barbara Toba Sister City Organization, and the Student Art Fund of the Santa Barbara Art Association.
